500 is a big number!

By duncan, March 29, 2012 Comments Off Uncategorized

It’s the number of times our show has been listened since we first went live four weeks ago.

500 plays with only four episodes done is amazing for us and has somewhat blown our collective minds!

We have all you guys that have taken time out of your lives to listen to us ramble on about video games to thank for this! We make this show because we love what we do and we love video games, but knowing that there a bunch of people out there who enjoy what we do spurs us on to do more and better content.

This boils down to a massive, huge THANK YOU to anyone who has helped us get here, and we are looking forward to bringing you more in the future and hopefully help our little community grow along the way.

Now we’re off to raise a glass or two to celebrate!

New show and new website!

By duncan, March 28, 2012 Comments Off Developments, New Episode, Podcasts

As we’re sure you guys are used to by now, but we’re going to advertise it anyway, the new edition of The Games Cast is now available for your audio pleasure.

As always there are a number of ways you can get hold of it, starting with our second home on Spreaker.com where you can also pick up on any old shows you may have missed. Each show gives you the ability to listen from the site or download it directly in .mp3 format.

We’re also available for streaming and download on iTunes and SoundCloud.

Each week the listening numbers are just getting more amazing and we have all you guys to thank for this!

If you’re on Twitter or Facebook, why not give us a follow or a like to get more regular updates from us. We want to develop how we use social media but for it to work properly we need to be sure we can reach you all because what goes out on these sites from us will eventually be part of the weekly show. In short, if you can help us, we can improve the show for you!

Semi-begging over!

You may also have noticed that we mentioned a new website, and indeed there is one teetering on the brink of release. It’s in final beta-testing now as it has some nifty features that will make it much easier for everyone listening to chat with us during the live recordings.

We can’t give dates yet but we want to release it for you guys as soon as we can.

Ok, you’ve twisted our arm, it should be out within the next two to three weeks. You didn’t hear it here, right!

Get listening, get involved and be part of The Games Cast!

Is it Tuesday already?

By duncan, March 27, 2012 Comments Off New Episode, TGC Live, The Games Cast

Another week, another Tuesday, which means tonight is the live broadcast of episode four of The Games Cast!

This time we’ve been a little more selective of the stuff we want to cover but there is still a load of items to get through such as:

  • PS3 turning five years old in Europe
  • News on the WiiU
  • Tax breaks for video game developers in the UK
  • Notch’s next game

Plus many others that made us sit up and take notice. And we may even, shock horror, have an actual proper hypothetical discussion, which may contain…opinions! More on that during the show, but rest assured it doesn’t involved Peter Molyneux.

If that last gag totally passed you by, go listen to the last couple of episodes to catch up.

We hope you’ll be able to join us live tonight from 9pm over at Spreaker.com/users/thegamescast where you can throw your opinions in to the ring as well to be part of the show.

If you’re not able to get near a computer to listen in you can still pick us up on Spreaker’s iPhone and Android apps, and of course with any internet enabled phone or tablet device.

As always we’ll be on twitter and facebook during the show, so whichever way you want to get involved we’ll be there to pick it up!

Home is where the website is!

We’ve been a little quiet here over the past few days so we’d just like to drop a quick update for everyone.

Firstly, our new website is so close to being finished and ready for release that we can almost taste it’s coded loveliness….does that sentence even make sense?!

It will end up offering you our wonderful visitors a much easier way to see what is going with us, pick up on previous episodes, get a flavour of recent twitter and Facebook happenings and listen to our recent shows right on the website. Phil is busy working on a few other things to build up the offerings but more will be revealed on that when we can talk about it.

This past week has seen us receive a huge amount of attention with new listeners coming in all the time, which is part of the reason we’ve not posted much here. We’d like to say a massive thank you to Spreaker.com for their support!

However we want to reach more people, so we’re going to ask a little favour. You can help us massively by sharing episodes of our show on Twitter, Facebook and Soundcloud, as well as doing retweets and post shares from our social media efforts. If you can drop a like on the Facebook page, or follow us on Twitter too that would be massive!

We don’t expect anyone to do any of this but if you do enjoy what you’ve heard so far from us, doing one of the above or just posting and talking about our show can help. Seeing genuine positive responses from you guys really does spur us on to develop what we do, and the more folks who tune in, the bigger and better we can make the show for you in return.

We have a number of plans that we want to bring to life, using different media, in addition to our core show, but also for spin-off broadcasts too, all of which we can start to bring to life with your help and support.

Enough with the pleas for now, but anything you can do will really help, and thank you to all of you who have already taken the time to share/post/tweet/status update about what we do; you’re all fricking awesome!

Have a great weekend everybody!

Another episode in the bank!

We’re fresh from broadcasting episode 3 of The Games Cast, “And the winners is…”, last night so if you missed us going out live you can pick it up in one of a few ways:

We had a great response to the show and as always we want to hear your feedback on the topics raised and there are plenty to choose from as it was another packed show; we managed to cover off WOW on iPhone, more GAME developments, the BAFTA results, Xbox turning 10 years old and many more besides.

If you enjoyed the show you can follow us on Spreaker, get daily updates from us on Twitter and Facebook and of course get more detailed information about the goings on here at TGC towers right on this website.

If there is anything you want to email us about our address is simply show@thegamescast.com.

And the winner is….

It’s Tuesday once again which means tonight at 9pm we go live once more with The Games Cast!

Again we have a hugely packed show with so many things we want to talk about that just isn’t enough minutes in the show to get it all in! We will however be covering this lot:

  • Winners and losers highlights from the recent Video Game BAFTA awards
  • PSN security to be improved
  • EA Sports on Watchdog
  • Xbox turns 10 years old in Europe

Plus a whole load more that we’ll hopefully get chance to go through.

This is also your chance to have your say ahead of the show going live tonight. If you have an opinion on any of the above drop a comment on this post or tweet us, or comment on the Facebook poll we have running at the moment (you should see it pinned to the top of our page).

Most importantly you can pick up tonight’s show by going to our home on Spreaker where the show will appear when we switch on at 9pm tonight (UK time). And if you missed the previous couple of episodes you can listen back to them from that same page.

That’s it for this update, we’ll see you live tonight!

TGC wants YOU for the next show!

By duncan, March 17, 2012 Comments Off Listener call-out, New Episode, TGC Live

Once again we’ll go live with The Games Cast at 9pm, Tuesday 20th March.

There is already a plethora of topics we want to cover but the biggie has to be a little thing called the BAFTAs which happened just the other night. We’ll not say too much about our reactions to the winners and losers but there was the odd raised eyebrow.

On top of that we’ll be talking about Xbox turning 10 (and how old it makes us feel), yet more developments in the GAME saga and the industry ramifications, and EA Sports hitting Watchdog.

We want you lot involved in this show ahead of time so if you’ve got any opinions, good bad or ugly, about the topics mentioned above, or indeed want to pass comment on any big stories that caught your eye, drop them in the comments below and we’ll dig in to them on Tuesday night.

TGC isn’t just about us three idiots wittering on, we genuinely love to get you involved too because more opinions makes a better discussion. Down the line we have got some ideas to open the show up to you, but we’ll talk more about that nearer the time we can actually do them.

So come on, chuck your thoughts in the mix and be a part of The Games Cast; made by gamers, for gamers!

Adventures in ranting – Episode 2 is now available!

By duncan, March 14, 2012 Comments Off New Episode, Podcasts, The Games Cast

Last night we broadcast the second edition of The Games Cast with Paul, Phil and Duncan chewing the cud, and sometimes spitting it out again in disgust over a number of topics including;

  • The continuing GAME saga
  • Peter Molyneux’s departure from Microsoft
  • The next Xbox rumours
  • The Gamerscore cock-up
  • Mass Effect 3 DLC on disc?

as well as few other things thrown in to the pot.

This really was a packed show but it didn’t stop us going largely off topic for most of the time. We also get to witness the return of the infamous (at least amongst us) “Paul Rantacular”.

If you missed the live broadcast pop over to our Spreaker page to hear what went on, and pick up episode 1 plus our preview shows whilst you’re there.

In other news, we’ve now got iTunes set up and ready to rock and roll. Search for “the games cast” to find us and get yourself subscribed as every show will not only be held on Spreaker but on iTunes as well.

Phil is also nearing completion of our brand new website which is on track to go live at the beginning of April, and we can safely say it looks awesome. It means that you guys will have a much cleaner experience and in theory make it easier to find the important stuff you need to know about here at TGC Towers.

Busy times as you can tell and we’ve only just polished off our second show!

You may also want to take a look at the image work Paul has been doing over on our Facebook page. This is what we get up to after we finish a show!
