The Games Cast Podcast

The TGC podcast is the bread and butter of our audio output. To us it’s the reason we do it. Each month the tightly produced 90 minute long podcast has the same regular features such as Lud’Alan, the RoundTables as well as including three brilliant competitions. We’ve put together a full feature list below. If you ever fancy catching up with what we’ve produced so far then we’ve got a gorgeous little podcast archive for you to browse.

How do we do it

Well, it’s worth noting that the three of us don’t live within walking distance of each other. Phil, situated close to the Jurassic coast is probably the furthest of three. Duncan lives close to the great city of Leicestershire and Paul, well, suffice to say Paul is a Blackburn fan. In fact Paul once lived on the same street as Ewood Park.

When we’re recording the podcast we all record our own individual microphone stream. Paul and Duncan use Audacity to record their mics, whilst Phil, on the mac, uses Wiretap Studio.

Connecting together over Skype allows us to hear what the others are saying but at all times the recording is kept to a highest possible quality as we each record only our own voices. These individual files are then uploaded to Duncan who mashes them together using Audacity. Once all three are put together the single files are then sent over to Phil who does some post-production using Garageband and fills in the pre-recorded items such as the competitions and the opening and closing sequence themes. Then it’s mixed down into a single MP3 file and uploaded to this here website for all you lovely people to download.

Equipment-wise we all use Samson CO1U microphones, which were very kindly donated to us by Samson and Korg UK. Whilst we are recording we have some rather nifty Samson headphones strapped to our heads, again donated by Samson and Korg UK.
