The eagle-eyed amongst will have realised that there was no regular Friday show this past week (28 September 2012 to be specific) and that is for a very simple reason; Eurogamer Expo 2012.

We decided to cancel the regular show during the Expo to then come back the following week (Friday 5 October) to give you our own impressions of the Expo and our personal highlights. It isn’t just about us though because we want to hear what you guys thought about it too.

We finally got round to recording episode 18 and it worked. Without a problem!

This time around Paul is your host and as such pops his broadcast host cherry. That alone should make the show worth a listen, and to make that easier for you just hit the Play button on the little Spreaker boxout on the right of this page, or get yourself over to our Spreaker page, and start listening while you read this.

We talked about two new sections we’re incorporating in to the weekly show, both of which you can hear about in part two of episode 18 (listen from about 20 minutes in if you want to skip ahead).

Things have moved quite quickly here at The Games Cast in the first 10 episodes of Season 2 and we are now looking at changing our game to bring you guys more and better content; at least that’s the idea.

It’s all stuff we’ve talked about here and there on the show or on Twitter/Facebook, but we’ll save the full details for Episode 11. If you have no idea what we’re talking about because this is the first time you’ve found this site, to make things simple get yourself over to this page and have a listen to what we do.

There is one idea that we haven’t talked about at all, anywhere, publically, but if all comes good then it’ll be a big development in giving you lovely lot a chance to directly influence the show. By “if all comes good” we mean assuming that Paul, Phil and Duncan can agree on how to work it properly. It is however an exciting development for us!

TGC Gaming League

By duncan, April 26, 2012 Comments Off Developments, Events, Listener call-out

So we’ve talked about it in the last couple of shows (Episodes 7 and 8 if you’re reading this a few weeks later) and we want to find out from you guys which game you would prefer us to use for a small “for fun” gaming tournament just for you folks that listen to the show!

You may have already seen the tweets and Facebook poll but we need to get some more feedback as currently opinion is split! And what are those choices I here you ask?

To keep it nice and simple, this is the first time we’ve tried this out after all, we’ve got just two choices, but their both goodies! You can either plump for old school with Bomberman, or go for bang up to date with the recently released Trials Evolution, both would be played over Xbox Live. You can place your vote right here by simply commenting with your choice, or pop over to the Facebook page and vote there. You can also vote on Twitter by tweeting @thegamescast with either #TGCTRIALS or #TGCBOMB.

We’re looking to get this going in a couple of weeks time but you only have until Episode 9 goes out on air (Tuesday 1 May 2012 at 9pm) before voting closes to give us the week after to organise it for you guys.

It’ll be a points based system to decide the winner, and although this is a for fun league, if all goes well, we’ll look to do it again and try to source some prizes for you to win. And yes, Paul, Phil and Duncan will be taking part in the league, but of course if we do offer any prizes for winning none of them will claim the prize for themselves; which of course is assuming the guys would have a flickering hope of beating all of you lot!

If you want to hear a bit more about it, go pick up Episode 8 from our Spreaker page and tune in.

Very quickly to finish, we still want your feedback on whether we should extend the show to an hour every week or not. Is an hour too long, or 45 minutes too short? Is an hour not enough? Again, just comment below, tweet us @thegamescast or send us a message through Facebook.

What’s coming up in tonight’s new episode?

By duncan, April 17, 2012 Comments Off Developments, Listener call-out, New Episode, TGC Live

Although you may think we’ve disappeared from the site we are still here and we’re going into the studio once again tonight at 9pm with a new dollop of video game chat and opinion.

This week we’re talking about more rumours of the Valve Steambox, ridiculously expensive Limited Edition games, Molyneux talking about leaving Microsoft and why gaming is a positive in life, plus loads more.

We also have another TGC Question we want you to answer:

Which game has the best soundtrack and why did it catch your ear?

We’ll be discussing the answers in the final section of the show tonight so either reply to this post, tweet us @thegamescast with the hashtag #TGCQ, or reply to our Facebook page comment. While you’re on Twitter and Facebook, why not follow us or drop a like!

In other news, the new version of this very website is so close to going live we’re all super excited to get it out for you all to see. Hopefully it’ll mean that we can offer you all more of a central hub than asking you to go off to other sites to find out what we’re doing and when. All will be revealed but we hope you like it as Phil has been working his backside off to get it ready.

Once again, we would just like to thank all of you who have taken the time to listen to our show, either live or as a podcast. We’re not far off hitting a major milestone for the show in terms of listeners and it has really caught us off guard with how quick the show has gathered a loyal following. Every retweet, message, like or comment posted is a huge help to us and is massively important to keep you engaged in the show even when we’re not on air.

Down the line we are looking to make some changes to improve the show for you but where possible we all always involve you guys before anything changes as your feedback is just as important as anything the three of us come up with.

If you’re visiting here for the first time, then welcome along! To answer a common question we get, yes the show that goes out via Spreaker every Tuesday night is 100% live; the only pre-recorded parts are the adverts and background music we play. The podcast version is the whole show recorded as it happened, and then posted up straight away “warts and all”, to iTunes and SoundCloud as well as on Spreaker.com. It’s our way of trying to preserve the live feeling whenever you listen.

That’s it for now, but we’ll catch up with you all in Episode 7!

So the site has been a bit quiet…

Mainly due to the fact we’ve been stuffing our faces with Easter Eggs and retro gaming!

However, as regular as Old Father Time himself, The Games Cast is back tonight with a brand new episode live at 9pm which you can pick up from this very page.

Tonight we’re focusing on the rose-tinted glasses of retro gaming as Phil and Duncan take you through their journey in to the mists of gaming past following their visit to the Retro Gaming Weekend held over Easter in a small place called Coalville in Leicestershire.

We’ll also be taking our usual spin on the weeks news and events in the gaming-verse, and we have a little question we would love to hear your thoughts on:

What is your old skool game of choice if you need a bit of a mood booster, or are just plain bored?

Just drop your answers as a comment to this post; tweet us @thegamescast or with #TGCQ; or reply on our Facebook page. Failing that, just listen in live tonight via Spreaker.com and join in the live chat with us and everyone else listening!

Right, now we need to get back to preparation for tonight’s broadcast!

All yours for £1 – Episode 5 available now!

By duncan, April 3, 2012 1 Listener call-out, New Episode

A brand new edition of The Games Cast is now available for you where we discussed the big stories from the video game industry. If you missed it live you can pick it up in one of a few ways:

This week saw us include our first question to listeners: If you could choose, which gaming Universe would you live in and why? and we got some great responses. However we want to hear more so get in touch on TwitterFacebook or via the Episode 5 message wall.

A second feature was also spawned this week:

Paul and Phil’s Free Download Game Challenge!

We want you guys to recommend a free iPhone/iPad game that you think Paul and Phil will love. After episode 5 we have a score line of Paul 1 – Phil 2 after Paul decided that he actually really got in to two of the three games Phil recommended.

Here’s how it works. Each week we’ll pick three games you guys recommend for one of them to trial, next time it will be Phil’s turn. On the next episode Phil will feedback on his playtime with them; any he loves Paul gets a point, any that get deleted after a few minutes playing means Phil gets a point. Each week we’ll alternate who trials the games then at the end of the features (the length of this depends on how many good recommendations we get) the “winner” will be declared the one who has least points eg. they picked more games that the other liked and therefore have far better taste in gaming!

Complicated? Not half as much as trying to come up with it all after deciding to do the feature weekly live on air! We like to call these things “group production meetings”, you guys just happen to be hearing it all too!

If you enjoyed the show you can follow us on Spreaker, get daily updates from us on Twitter and Facebook, and of course get more detailed information about the goings on here at TGC towers right on this website.

Should you wish to discuss anything about the show in general with us in a less public space than social media, you can of course email us show@thegamescast.com.

By duncan, April 3, 2012 Comments Off Listener call-out, TGC Live, The Games Cast

Here’s a little peek at what is coming up on tonight’s show folks:

  • Journey on PSN
  • Mars Effect?!
  • Next Xbox chat
  • Big industry names help new talent

We’ll also be checking in with Paul on how he got on with Phil’s recommended iPhone games. Has Paul been convinced that they’re more than 10 minute fodder? If you’re not sure what that’s all about, go back to episode 4 to find out.

As always we want you guys to get involved with us live, and we even have a question to pose to you all that we want to discuss tonight:

Which gaming Universe would you want to live in if you had the opportunity? What attracts you to that one above the others?

So get your thinking caps on and either reply to this post, tweet us, or reply on Facebook. Then get yourself tuned in tonight from 9pm to hear the feedback!
